This post will be one in which I am utterly humiliated. I’m showing you the dirtiest parts of my home. The places that have been neglected for far too long. Yes, I’m revealing the dirt. Friends, this ain’t no Pinterest worthy picture of a perfect home. This is a real home that gets lived in. Sweet potatoes explode in my oven. Pots boil over on my stove. Food gets dripped on clothing. Children track mud on the carpet. Handprints decorate my mirrors. The dog has accidents on my floor. You get the picture. It’s a home, probably much like yours.
I have an old kitchen. I’m talking a 1964 kitchen, in which nothing has been updated since. It’s so old that when certain parts turn black, I almost think, “What’s the point? There’s no way it can look nice again.” I had almost given up…almost. I wanted to see if my new favorite non-toxic cleaner, Branch Basics (aff link) was really as good as I thought it was. Cleaning with non toxic products is important to me. Over the years I have used many products, both homemade and commercial to try to get my appliances looking nice, with minimal results, so I was not really expecting much.
It started with my oven
This is hideous, I know. Shameful really. The glass on the door is so black that you can’t even see through it.
After a round of Branch Basics
While it’s not perfect, it looks about 500% better than what it did before. I can see through the window now, and I can actually read the words on the door. The inside took very little scrubbing at all. I sprayed the inside and door and let it sit for about 15 minutes. While I did use a plain stainless steel scrubber for the door, the inside wiped clean with a rag. I was truly impressed and immediately sent a picture to my husband.
I couldn’t stop there, so I moved on to my cooktop. I clean these about once a year, but they never really come clean. I’ve tried replacing them, but this cooktop is so old that I can’t purchase pieces that will fit anymore.
I mean just look at those poor burner covers. They look hopeless, don’t they?
And the After: drumroll please…..
What? Some of them even look a bit shiny! Some of the stains are deep and it just wouldn’t get all of them, but look at the difference in the before and after. I was floored that I did this while I was waiting for dinner to cook.
We’ve seen the power of the all-purpose cleaner, now how about the streak-free? This is a mirror in my daughter’s bedroom. I’m not sure what happened here. I didn’t ask. I was too afraid of the answer. I think one of my kids got too much lotion or something on their hands and just wiped it on the mirror. Yes, that sounds like a much better solution than just washing it off in the sink. Please excuse the yoga pants in the pictures. I had to stand in the picture so you could actually see the mess. They didn’t show up well without the contrast of the black pants.
I had let a stain pile get a little out of control. It’s always best to treat stains right away, and now I do, but before I had a good product for treating stains, the pile would grow and grow and grow while I procrastinated the dirty job.
Now I just spray the all-purpose dilution on the stain, let sit and agitate. Then I wash as normal and the shirt is good as new.
There are so many reasons to love Branch Basics. Here are a few of my favorites.
1. Completely non-toxic
No harsh ingredients or fumes. I don’t worry about it being around my family, dog, or even going down the drain and into the environment. I also love that it smells neutral. No overwhelming smells of vinegar, strong chemical smells, or frangrances.
2. Simplifies cleaning
One product for every single thing in the home and no recipes or other ingredients needed. Most of the time, I don’t even make my own cleaners anymore. If my budget is a little tighter or I’m waiting for a Branch Basics shipment, I might whip up a homemade cleaner, but I much prefer my Branch Basics. It has streamlined and simplified my home. It’s a no-brainer filling up the bottles to the lines as directed in the instructions right on the bottle.
3. It works! The enzymes in the concentrate are so effective at cutting grease, removing stains, and requires much less elbow grease than my other natural cleaners.
4. Extremely versatile
I can use it for just about everything that requires cleaning in my home: laundry detergent, stain removal, carpet stains, windows/mirros, counters, bathrooms, floors, appliances, dishes, hands and body, on the go hand cleaner, and produce wash.
5. Cost effective
When factoring in the versatility, it is cheaper than buying individual products. It is more expensive than when I was using just vinegar and baking soda, but it’s much less expensive than commercial green cleaning products. The larger your bulk order, the more you save as well.
If you want to simplify your cleaning routine with a non-toxic product that really works, I highly recommend the small starter kit to try it out and see if you like it. That is what I started with, and now I purchase the concentrate in bulk. Because you probably like a deal like me, Branch Basics is offering my readers 25% off with the coupon code Pure25. Yipee! Happy cleaning, friends!
